Working To Ensure The Future Of Koalas In The Wild

Answering the need for a full-service koala hospital in the Toowoomba region

We are launching an initiative to build a state-of-the-art Koala Hospital dedicated to the treatment, rehabilitation, and conservation of these vulnerable animals. The hospital will serve as a sanctuary for koalas, providing veterinary care 24/7 for sick, injured, or orphaned koalas in the Toowoomba and surrounding regions.

The Mission

Our mission is to become a state-of-the-art koala hospital offering 24-hour care for sick and injured koalas in the Toowoomba and surrounding regions. Drawing on our passion, we will use our expertise to treat and rehabilitate koalas ensuring the future survival of the local koala populations and beyond. By uniting the compassion and resources of our community, we will strive to create a healthier future for our beloved koalas.

The Plan

Back to the Bush Koalas, Ltd is launching an initiative to build a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital to provide urgent medical care for koalas in need. Council has approved the use of an existing building for this purpose, now we are asking for help from the community to support our initiative. There will be an on-site veterinarian here available to take emergencies at all times -considering most vehicle strikes occur in the night, this can make all the difference in a trauma case! We need funding to turn the building into a veterinary clinic and to fit it out with everything necessary to provide each koala with the best chance for recovery. Additionally, operational costs for veterinary care, nursing staff, and consumables will require continuous funding.

The Need

Veterinary treatment of koalas requires specialised knowledge and facilities. Currently, koalas in this region must travel up to 2 hours to the nearest koala hospital. In an emergency, minutes can make the difference between life and death. Having a koala hospital in this location will help ensure an injured koala has the best chance possible.

Our focus will be providing:

  • A full service veterinary clinic for treating injured or sick koalas.
  • Recovery and treatment enclosures to ensure a stress-free rehabilitation environment.
  • Working with universities and researchers to understand the health challenges facing koalas and implementing positive changes for their health in the wild, such as chlamydial vaccines.
